Working in collaboration with architect Chris Muskopf from Cambridge Seven Associates, in 2012 I designed the butterfly gardens for the award-winning Gloucester HarborWalk. In conjunction with my design practice, I am currently creating and developing several film projects: life stories about both the Monarch and Black Swallowtail butterflies, and a third film made especially for my Cape Ann community, the Feast of St. Joseph. For more information on my documentary about the Black Swallowtail Butterfly, visit the film’s website at Life Story of the Black Swallowtail Butterfly. Both butterfly documentaries were filmed in gardens and along the shores of Cape Ann. My first film, titled The Butterfly Garden at Willowdale Estate, is a thirty minute narrated film that features the Butterfly Gardens at Willowdale that I designed, and serves as the background for an illustrated guide in how to create a garden for people and pollinators. When you plant for the pollinators, they will come!
I am the mom of Liv and Alex Hauck, author, designer, illustrator, and photo/film/journalist. I am a daily contributor to the stellar community blog Good Morning Gloucester, where I share design and horticulture tips, photos, and videos. For information about my book Oh Garden of Fresh Possibilities! (David R. Godine, Publisher), which I both wrote and illustrated, visit The Oh Garden! pages.
